Startup Company Website Tutorial: Build a Website That Converts Like Crazy!

You can have the best product in the world, but if your website is ineffective, no one will buy from you.

No customers, no sales - your startup will fail.

But a great website changes everything, and today I'm going to show you step by step how to design a website that converts like crazy. I've coached over 50 startups and billion dollar companies, and this exact design has helped them achieve conversion rates of over 10% - so you can just copy and paste it.

Let's dive in!
You will learn:
→ The exact step-by-step framework to design a high-converting website.
→ How to craft a powerful headline that instantly captures attention.
→ The essential components every high-converting website must include.

1. Logo

I want to make this super actionable, so let's say we've just released a meditation app and want to get new customers. Here is how I would build that website. We start with a blank canvas.

The first thing you need to include is your logo in the top left corner of your website.

Why is this so important? Because it sets the structure of the website and helps build brand recognition.

For example, if you do content marketing and use your logo in your social media posts, people will immediately know who you are - so having your logo on your website is important.

2. The main headline

Next, the headline. This text - and most people overlook this - is one of the most important texts on your website.

Think about it - people visit your landing page and this is the first thing they see - if this text doesn't immediately resonate with your target audience - if they don't immediately feel like "oh yeah, this sounds interesting", they will leave. This takes about 2 seconds, so if you can't catch people immediately, you will lose them forever.

So how do you catch people?

The best way to engage your audience is to immediately show them your main benefit. Ask yourself, what do people get when they use your product?

In our example, with our meditation tips, users can reduce stress, relax more during the day and focus on what is important.

So we could use something like "Reduce stress, and have more energy during a hard day at work".

The important thing is to keep it short. I also like to ask a question - as long as it resonates with the audience. For example, "Are you often stressed during the work day?" This gets immediate attention.

Take a moment to think about your own business. What is the number one benefit you offer? And how can you say it in one simple sentence?

This is the headline for your website.

3. The subline

Just below the headline, we add a subline - a slightly longer piece of text that supports the main message and highlights another key benefit.

For example, for our meditation app we could say:

"Our meditation app helps you reduce your stress, improve focus and sleep better - all in less than 5 minutes a day with our daily meditation tips."
Website example
The goal is to show people why they should get your product. Ok, we've got some text, let's make this website more compelling with some visuals.

4. Visuals: Images or videos

On most websites today you will see a 2 column grid. Text on the left and an image on the right. And this design just works great!
Website example
So to the right of our headline and subline, we put a strong visual element. Now this could be either an image or a video showing your product in action. If you have a video, that's excellent. An image is fine too, but a video is the best way to show the benefits of your product.

For our meditation app, we will use an image for now. A screenshot of our app works well.

Remember - the key here is to show what your product is about, so never use stock footage or a fancy image if it does not support your claim.

You want people to say: "This looks super valuable, I want to try it".
Now we come to the most important part of the website.

Your Call To Action.

5. Call To Action (CTA)

The Call To Action is this big button - this big 'Buy now', 'Download the product' or 'Sign up for the newsletter' button. This is where we show visitors what to do next. We can put the CTA right below our subline.
Website example
Now, a website without a strong CTA will not bring you any customers. So it has to be on point.  I made a special video on how to build a Call To Action that converts - check it out here.

But the basics are this: Use a bold color and tell people clearly what to do.

For example, "Download the app now" or "Start your free trial today".

Here's a pro tip. Make sure the Call To Action is above the fold - this means people don' have to scroll to find it. This is super important because if people have to search for it, you'll lose them.
Website example
Now, if your website only does this, you are already on the right track. But we are not done yet. We want a conversion rate of over 10%.

Let's keep going.

6. Testimonials

Under the CTA we add testimonials or user reviews. People trust people, not what you say on your website.

So add your strongest testimonials here. For our meditation app, we could add some user reviews from the app stores.
Website example
Quick pro tip - the best testimonials are the ones that show transformation. The ones that show what people have achieved. "Cool app" is not a super helpful testimonial. It's good, but it's not going to help us get a conversion rate of more than 10%.

We look for testimonials like "This app has finally helped me to be more relaxed during the day" or "I tried these meditation tips for 3 days and I already sleep better".

Do you see this transformation?
That is what we want.

If you don't have testimonials yet, go to some of your customers - even if you only have a few at the moment - and ask them for one. Trust me, it will instantly boost your website conversions.

7. Benefits + CTA

We are making good progress. In this section we will outline the key benefits of our product.

A great layout is an icon with short text. So keep it more in this bullet point style. For our app, the benefits might be:

1. 10-minute guided meditations for busy schedules
2. Over 100 meditation topics
3. Works offline so you can meditate wherever you are

8. CTA breaker

Now comes a section that is super important and I think is one of the main reasons why I got such a high conversion rate. I call it the CTA breaker.

It is basically a small section in a different color that breaks up the layout of the website. Think about it - when people are scrolling down a website, they are often not reading the text, they are just scrolling down.

A CTA breaker grabs the attention of those people and that is what we want. So in one sentence, in one big sentence, we show the benefit of our product and simply add another call to action.

Simple as that.
Website example
For example, in a colorful block we could say:

"Ready to find your peace and be more relaxed? Download the app now and start your first meditation."

This works because it grabs attention and gives visitors another chance to take action.

9. FAQ + CTA

With this layout you already have a great site - but we want to add one more thing - a FAQ section. FAQs are perfect for answering common objections.

I can imagine people thinking:

• How will this app help me?
• Is it free forever?
• How much time will I need?
Website example
So it is great to answer those questions right away. Now, for a meditation app it might not be that important because people just download it and if they don't like it they delete it. But if you have a product other than an app, a FAQ section can work wonders.

And below that, you'll add another CTA at the end of the FAQ section. Remember, you want to make it as easy as possible for people to convert.

10. Footer

At the bottom you put in your footer. This ties everything together.
It is important to include your imprint, contact details and privacy policy - as well as all the legal stuff.

It's not the most exciting part, but it's necessary.
